My name is Robert Elmore . I am 61 years old. I have dedicated this Web Site to the 36th Engineer Battalion. I am looking for persons who served with me in the 36th. I was drafted into the Army in May of 1966. I was sent to Fort Knox for Basic Training. I was assigned to the A-10-5 Training Group, 4th Platoon. After Basic Training I was sent to Fort Irwin , California for further training. I was assigned to the 36th Engineer Battalion. I was in B Company. Fort Irwin is in the Mojave Desert about 40 miles from Barstow, California. This is not far from Death Valley. I was stationed there until September of 1967. The Battalion shipped out for Vietnam at that time. We left on the Troop Carrier, General John Pope . We sailed out of Oakland harbor under the Golden Gate Bridge. It took over 20 days to get to our destination. We landed at Vung Tau, Vietnam.

I was at Vung Tau until my discharge from the Army in April of 1968. I am looking for people that served with me. Anyone that was in the 36th Engineer Battalion at that time, most specifically anyone who was in B company.
